CALGARY Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. is permanently cutting 37 mechanical services jobs in southwestern Ontario, the Canadian Press reports.
The railroad said Monday all of the work done by the employees in London, Welland, Lambton and Oshawa will be moved to the company's yard in Toronto.
"We are in the face of an economic slow down and what it has done is provide an opportunity for CP to conduct an operational review of its mechanical services structures," CP spokeswoman Breanne Feigel said.
The company said the union was told on Feb. 6 and the positions will be cut on June 6.
"It doesn't necessarily affect the employees in those positions, there are seniority clauses at play," Feigel said.

More often than not, when our outfit makes a 'work move,' to a different location, they're obliged to buy the affected employees houses.
Not that that is any comfort, but it does make one wonder...if this move has strings attached? Like seniority being 'dovetailed' in at the new work location? And will the assignments/shifts/rest days be held?
Tough when it's you, or someone ya know. Been there...
