Heard shots while putting some switches in the hand throw position at 58th street last night. I haven't checked the paper yet to read about the carnage.

Last year as the Derby train went through Springfield, OH some one shot out the window of the lead F unit. How shitty is that, foamers chase the thing around country taking pictures of it, and some guy in Springfield has nothing better to do than to take pot shots at it.

They probably had something against horses.
Krink, maybe it'd be easier to ask what towns you haven't spent a half hour in. What, no pictures?
The Krink has been to a lot of places...especially those that have RR tracks going through them (or a super fast clay oval). The Southeast is the only area that I purposely left off my travel plans. Could be I have some creepy Civil War residual memories. Got into some serious genealogical research a few years ago. My great great grandfather was born and raised in Tennessee. When the Civil War happened, he joined up with the Union (the North) army. Some of the things I gleened from my research was that my GG grandfather in the army was assigned to protecting "railroad bridges" and was known for his photography. Found 3-4 letters he wrote or letters refering to him as being a very good photographer for the time period. About now I'm getting some serious "shzings" going through my body. My GG grandfather was captured by the Confederates in battle and spent time in a horrible prison camp in Alabama. When the Civil War ended, it took a little while for all the prisoners of war to be released and to make it back home. The worst maritime disaster in US history is still the sinking of the USS Sultana, a Mississippi river boat loaded with about 2500 soldiers returning home from the war. My GG grandfather was on the Sultana. I purchased the book about the whole Sultana story. Guess you'd just have to read the book to get the unfucking believable details of that night on the Mississippi River north of Memphis Tennessee April 27 1865. I've always had this fear of rivers as in I'd never swim in one. This whole thing was a bit much for me to digest. Anyway... the Southeast is just best left alone for me.

Getting back to Springfield Cy, it was raining, Mrs Krink was with me, and no trains came through while I was there...hence no pictures. Bad towns...when your are making travels plans (using an Official Guide of the Railways, an Amtrak Schedule, a speedway guide, and a Rand McNally atlas), you don't consider what may be a bad town. On one of my many mega Amtrak journeys, Trinidad Colorado seemed like a strategic jump off point for a day. The BN/CS ran north/south and the ATSF ran east/west. The Southwest Chief dumped me off in Trinidad about noon and I wandered uptown with my luggage and found a hotel/motel to stay in. A little later I walked down to the BN/CS yard to watch the goings on. It was 15 minutes after I got there that a hoghead on a switcher invited me up to be his fireman. He was switching with a U-Boat in the Trinidad yard. We got to BS'ing and he said this is a bad town with all kinds of details and horror stories. Said he drop me off back to my room when he tied up. I said OK. So I got a couple hours of switching and riding around in a U-Boat in Trinidad. The guy did what he said, dropped me off at my hotel, and I thanked him for the cab ride and the advice. The next morning when I was getting ready to catch the Southwest Chief to LA, I noticed a cockroach sitting atop the bible on the table in my room. The second cockroach I've ever seen. The first was in New Orleans...another story.
