Well, Calvin, they tried. Down at my away-from-home terminal, there's an engine that's been around the yard lately where the Norfolk has completely disappeared on the side of the engine. Course, I think of the number one SUTHREN man every time I see it.

Did you notice that engine behind it is New York Central? Don't know what the one in front of it is, I didn't pursue the webpage, I was looking for something else and that came up.

Its a WhistleDick modelers wet dream. Suthren would have never bought a SD90MAC, never would have paid extra for the high numberboards it would have specified, nor would they have paid extra for the 4 extra windows in the cab infront and behind the sliding cab windows. As far as paint the pilot does not have the white zebra stripes Southern painted on for visibility. Missing also is the alpha-numeric check letter behind the Engine Number. Should be 7238k (or whatever letter)

NYC would have had no need for the SD90MAC either.
Matter of fact UP was only one who ordered a gob of 'em, and now most of them have been reengined and cut back to 4000hp. Pissed a lotta money away...

The unit leading is a GE, without steerable trucks, and the paint scheme lends itsself to the old CB&Q (Burlington).
In real live operation, this GE would probably be pulling the trailing two DIT to the next maintenance facility.

Now, This lashup would bring a tear to Snippys eye.....

Real men of Southern (and those who noticed Snippy's wall herald in the dog room) will know that Southern used yallow for a brief period of time to save money as the gold was expensive and the yallow was an early version reflectorized stuff.

Wall herald sounds like its in the appropriate place, the dog room.

Meanwhile, Calvin and I are wondering what's on your wall. And when Uke will break and tell us.

Wow, that junkyard on wheels sure kept their power up and looking spiffy, didn't they *cy*?

PS: *cy* is obviously not a dog person. Those who 'know' know that it's place of honor.

Coming around the curve at AC Tower, Marion. In the background to the right would be Marion Yard, train's about the hit the diamond where the Erie-Lackawanna and the Penn Central are still running trains, a lot of them, and then parallel the C&O through town. Cy first trod here in, well, never mind, but it was before that picture was taken and it was dated, UGH, 1971. Yeah, old.

Actually, Snip, a better place for your herald would be the bathroom or maybe an outhouse. As for spiffy power, what I remember about those boys, especially, is the trash-filled cabs that they would hand off to us post-1982, really ugly, and look at us and say, "Hey, we got it that way", or "Hey, it's not my engine". Must've been SUTHREN pride.

Actually, Snippy, I was thinking that having that herald in the dog room is an insult to the dogs.

As for that third unit, Calvin, I was wondering what it is but the N&W bought some GE power circa 1970 and it might be one of them. They were short-lived, I believe they were numbered in the 8500 series and I don't think they were on the roster for even ten years. Later, some other GE's would be purchased and numbered in the same series.
