No fine expected after CSX rail yard fuel spill
BETHLEHEM, N.Y. - The cleanup of a diesel fuel spill after an accident at the CSX rail yard could take months, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the Albany Times Union.

No environmental violations were expected after two locomotives and three freight cars went off the tracks early Sunday, with one engine spilling about 1,800 gallon of fuel.

"The company acted promptly to address the spill," said DEC regional spokesman Rick Georgeson. He said AMEC Environmental Consultants of Schenectady was hired to handle the cleanup, which includes trenches to collect tainted ground water that will be pumped out for treatment.

CSX expected the mishap would have minimal impact on operations at the freight rail yard in Selkirk.

No one was reported injured.
