OMAHA, Neb. - Union Pacific has been named one of the best places to start a career, the Associated Press reports.
Business Week ranked the Omaha-based railroad No. 28 in this year's list of the best places to get started in the working world.
UP's human resources vice president Barb Schaefer says being recognized in the magazine is an honor. She says even though hiring has slowed because of the economy, the railroad expects a number of openings in next few years because of retirements.
The magazine used three pieces of information to build its list. Business Week surveyed career counselors at U.S. colleges, and it conducted a survey of 60,000 undergraduates about their top choices for employment. And the magazine asked those companies to complete a survey about their hiring, benefits and training.
