Why is CSX the only railroad to advertise on TV?

CSX  has been quite consistently advertizing on TV this
one ton of freight  436 miles on one gallon of diesel fuel
for the past couple years. Since I live in the North West
and am a couple thousand miles away from the nearest CSX
interchange point, I wonder why those ads are being shown
around these parts. I think I recall a NS ad on the TV too
but not the frequency of the CSX ads. Nothing from BNSF or
UP. Guess CSX would know if TV advertising generates any
bump up in business. Another CSX ad going around  is about
"breathing". Less pollution by shipping CSX and the world
can breath again.

I think Snippy mentioned the answer awhile back, has to do with the new corridors, a political play for the corporate welfare dollars. Gotta get the public on board with their green ways.

Thanks for the note!

I always see CSXT commercials, and I have to admit they are very interesting. I dont know if they hired an advertising agency to help them advertise. But why doesnt NS consider having a advertising/promotion group. This group would exclusively work on ads and promotion for the company. They can also work on obtaining new business along with the marketing group. I know here at NS we have a lot of great talent who majored in marketing, (like myself) as well as design, and other tools that would help NS reach their goals of increased profits through commercial and other types of advertising and promotional runs. That is if we dont already have an advertising group that does this.

Ms Kirkwood,

The short answer is that we do a lot of advertising and have a very effective corporate communications group! To give you some more of the details and point you at some of the work that we've done, I'm forwarding this along to Frank Brown, our Assistant Vice President of Corporate Communications, who can give you all of the scoop.

Thanks for the note, and best wishes to you and yours for the holidays.
