Ex-CSX exec now CEO of Florida East Coast

(The following story by Mark Basch appeared on the Florida Times-Union website on May 29, 2010.)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Florida East Coast Railway announced Friday that James Hertwig will become president and CEO of the company, effective July 1. Hertwig was formerly president of CSX Intermodal.

Florida East Coast, a 351-mile railroad between Jacksonville and Miami, is a privately-owned Jacksonville-based company that was acquired in 2007 by funds affiliated with Fortress Investment Group LLC. Fortress funds also owned Jacksonville-based short-line railroad company RailAmerica Inc., but it took RailAmerica public last year. Fortress still controls 55 percent of RailAmericas stock.

Hertwig succeeds David Rohal as head of Florida East Coast. Rohal will continue in his role as senior vice president of RailAmerica and will remain on Florida East Coasts board of managers.

Jacksonville-based CSX Corp. announced last week that Hertwig was retiring as head of CSX Intermodal. Hertwig will be succeeded at CSX Intermodal by William Clement, who had been assistant vice president of sales and marketing for the company.
