Services for UTU member killed in Nebraska

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Funeral services have been scheduled for UTU member and Nebraska Central engineer Jeff Scholl, 38, of Norfolk Neb., who died last week after a railroad bridge collapsed near Sara's Lake in Norfolk. Scholl was a member of UTU Local 367.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, Neb. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. A wake service will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m.

A college scholarship fund has been established for Scholl's sons at the Petersburg State Bank in Petersburg. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.levanderfuneralhome.com.

Scholl was one of three Nebraska Central Railroad employees who fell into the Elkhorn River on Tuesday, when a bridge they were inspecting collapsed with little warning. One of the workers was able to climb out of the river himself, and the other was rescued by Norfolk rescue personnel.
