Senate commits $200M for rail tunnel
Another $200 million has been promised to help fund the construction of an $8.7 billion rail tunnel connecting New Jersey and Manhattan, Web site www.northjersey.com reports.

The Senate Appropriations Committee Thursday (July 22) endorsed providing a total of $206 million to help fund the proposed rail tunnel and advance other transportation and development projects in New Jersey.

The funds will be included in the fiscal year 2011 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill, which will next be considered by the full Senate by the fall.

The tunnel project is expected to be completed in 2017.

(The preceding report by Tom Davis appeared on the Web site www.northjersey.com on July 23, 2010.)
