Short line operator Watco, and Kansas City Southern Railway have been cited by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for allegedly retaliating against a former employee in violation of federal law, reports tradingmarkets.com.
The EEOC charged in a lawsuit filed Sept. 30 that Watco, which provides switching and other services to Kansas City Southern, fired marketing manager Michelle Chauvin after allegedly learning that Chauvin had an employment discrimination lawsuit pending against CSX. Chauvin had previously been employed by KCS for 16 years.
The EEOC said it is seeking a permanent injunction prohibiting both companies from engaging in employment discrimination and retaliation. In addition, the EEOC is seeking back pay, compensatory damages and punitive damages from Watco.
