Did work on another 40-2 yesterday. BNsf seems ta be using 'em ta 'help' RCLs in yards for extra TE on longer/heavier cuts, and trims.
We have one enroute ta Interbay for a turbo change as we speak. Yep. Turbocharged locomotives don't run well below N-6 all the time...or idle for weeks at a time.
Ya want a yard unit? Use a blower engine... A six-axle, heavy unit...2000-HP. Not a 3000-HP SD-40!

Hey fuck all yuo guyz! It was the MRL 251. Don't know what happened to it...but it's gone.
BNsf continues renumbering the 40s, and placing 'em in yard-service, where they NEVER wind up past N-4, 5... But the original 3000-HP is wasted!
Had one show up over the weekend from Spokane, right outa maintenance with a 'bad turbo' reported.
Checked it over for the B/O turbo...refilled it with hot water, replaced GURU plags...took at outside, and fired it up, and loaded it for about 45 minutes.
So much for a bad turbo. A bad turbo wouldn't run like that! But these guys can't troubleshoot ta save themselves!
Units used in yard service should be 2000-HP, blower engines. NOT turbocharged power.
But then again, whaddo I know?
