I remember seeing those a few times after Family Lines and Chessie System got together but I never saw one in the lead. In the last days, I think CSX painted the windows over and used them like B units.

Supposedly had a fridge and hot plate and room for 4.

Chances are that it went back to the conductors' cab agreement. Some specified the type of trucks (stabilizer) that had to be supplied. 

Or, it was a trade-in like Southern Alco TMs and trucks for EMD GP35s riding on same.
