The hoses are in the engineroom, enclosed on those old covered wagons, so the fireman or engineer is back there, inside, trying to put out a fire. Yeah.
I recall several engine fires, two of them were bad fires that brought out the local fire department, one burned it to the ground, more or less, unit was an Alco and it destroyed the cab, we left it in an elevator track where I seem to recall it setting for several days before it was moved. The other was an old Geep and it took the fire department to put it out but we took it on with us. That was the fire where the engineer tried to get the fireman to climb up on top and shoot the fire extinguisher down through the fans, to which the fireman replied that he had a better idea, that we'd all go over in the field and watch it blow. It was a pretty good fire, we got off and watched it, it didn't blow, though.
