...are these things? They're sitting just north of the rip...

Maybe snow removal units, maybe not. All marked MOW.

Weird looking things. They have lights, seats, etc. And a couple have heated cabs. Anybody? Clavalinala?

What confuses you Uke, the wheelsets or the Jordan Spreaders sitting behind the wheelsets? Interbay looks like he "elephants graveyard" for Jordan Spreaders. They work pretty good for snow fighting, but they are also used for ditching, removing cars parked too close tu the tracks, things like that.

I was heading to the roho... In civilian/street clothes, so I hadda shoot from up above on the embankment... Old and new wheels for cars, and a few truck frames...
Shot a couple more on the roho side, north, across the main. I'll try ta get a few more... Some of 'em are already gone. Deployed out somewhere on the northern lines...

Maybe Krink has a clue...

Hey There, Uke!!!!!

In the railroad industry, we call those "WHEELSETS". Some call them "WHEELS" but "WHEELS" are actually placed separately on the "AXLES" that you see! You have a rare capture there! Those "WHEELSETS" with "GEARS" on them are from "LOCOMOTIVES"!!!!!!

Way KEWLIO pix, Uke, my man! Have you thought about posting them at TRAIN ODORS?????? For only PENNIES a day??????

Gotta have a big set of coloonies ta set in the front of that thing and be pushed by a couple Locomotives. Huummmmm...possibly hard packed snow/ice  in front and 6000 horses behind, and you as the meat in the sammich.

Only have cylinders to push out on the wings, usually air powered from Locomotives.

If ya had ta plow something in the other direction, you were outta luck.

As long as ya go forward with them, they were good for 30mph.

If ya backed or pulled them backwards you were restricted to 10, the only thing holding those wings in was a couple weak lookin chains.

We used to have one(spreader) to clean ditches out...now we use a track hoe on a flat car with side dump hoppers.

I'll never forget a work train I was on with one of those spreaders, cleaning out ditches. A Representative of Sprint was along to keep track of the marker poles for the buried fiber optic cable that got knocked down. The Sprint guy started out on the wrong foot tellin the MofW guy to take it easy on his marker poles. I cant count how many times I kept those two apart. I cant really remember one pole that didnt get knocked down somehow...

Thanks for the info mntman! I feel like I know more about those old Jordans than ever before...

Guy who invented 'em was a genius. And then probably made quite a few bucks because of his knowledge of railroad maintenance of way, having been employed in the field!

There was one dated 1936 when I first noticed 'em, but that one was gone when I took the pics.

Uke, ditch lights are either on or off. Never saw any with other settings. HHB's don't have an off.
