And guess what? Uke did not break the damn thing! Nope.

The main Number#one1 day shift wheel truing dood who actually owns the job (As a bid), and is paid extra for the job, killed it. Yep.

He shut it down, and took it out of service for repairs in the controlling side gear-box, which drives the cutter head.

The cutter reprofiles the wheel to a new-like contour. We'd noticed that the opposite side wheels were truing out better, and easier. And we wondered why.

We heard it... A low frequncy grumbling from the near side gearbox.

Draining a bit of the oil...shiny flakes. Metal. Gear wear. More oil, bigger particles. Bigger flakes. The damn thing's been leaking a little bit of oil as it ran...until it ran dry...and we hadn't noticed.

The parts? Oh about $7000. Yep. Seven large. One gear, the largest/main driver $4500! Egads!

So no wheel truing for at least a month. I noticed a unit I worked under yesterday, had a badly shelled wheel at number one. But the thickness of the wheel...looked like a replacement could save a bunch of bucks, instead of truing it!

But it ain't my decision ta make!

I bet you are suppose to check the oil level as part of periodic maintenance. So you knew it was leaking????? Bring out the waterboard!

Fucking slacker union scumbugs. Let's hold an investigation. He's already admitted gross neigligence causing damage to valuable Carrier machinery. Someone could have gotten injured. Let's add reckless endangerment to the charge.

He better have had protective eyewear, with properly attached assorted safety paraphernalia and should there have been some sort of safety briefing before initiating the task? Waterboarding may be a mild punishment for this grievous disregard of safety and proper handling of company machinery.

There's a reservoir above the main drive box that feeds oil to that drive, it's a recirculating-type system (old-style) that is s'posed ta be checked every day... He does that when/if he is assigned ta work wheels...

They abuse the poor dude, and won't allow him ta do maintenance as needed. He works locomotive maintenance, drop pit, outbounds...everything! But only gets ta cut wheels as needed even though he owns the job on a bid.

He's had to argue with the generals ta get their attention in order ta work on the machine... I'm not the main guy, and the only time I work back there is if something comes up, like a WILD wheel that trips a detector out on the main.

After this next fix, they'll surely have him back there on a weekly basis. For a while there, we had a run on wheels that needed work, and we'd watch the oil levels as the machine ran... Through little windows, at the feeds.

Hydraulic oil operates most everything, and that reservoir is sealed, and recirculates through three filters and screens. It's only periodic maint. for the filters, screens, and to add oil as needed.

The machine oil (For the gears, and drivers should be checked daily tu) is only replenished as needed. Apparently a seal on the main box has been leaking for a while... Tu late ta save the gears, and the main seal needs ta be replaced now tu.

He told me yesterday that everything was ordered on Thursday, and that he will have a helper reassemble the gearbox when everything is there.

Snippy thinks Uke is being defensive.

We'll point it out to the neutral. Nobody knows that many details .

It's sabotage, not negligence. Escort him off the property.

What happened to all the oil that leaked while nobody was watching?

This is a big machine. We're not talking oz(s) or pints here...We're talkin GALLONS!! Is there an oil slick down the machine a couple inches wide? Is there a puddle on the floor that the Janitor wipes up everyday and says nothing to anyone about it? Did that oil get washed out of the stall and get out on the ground where it soaked in and got into the ground water?  Is DER/DEP been notified?

If its a closed system, and oil doesn't evaporate, when the oil level goes down, and its supposed to be checked everyday, barring catastrophic failure, what do you suspect first?

Waterboard? Seems tame. Aint Tony D. lookin for some work?

Hey I'm just the messenger here! Please don't hot oil board me man!

I only know what J told me, and saw the evidence. Lost oil drips down onto the conveyor, which carries the chips outside into a bin.
Nobody wants ta dig inta that...

And like I said you're s'posed ta check the oil every day. I go through his check list before I spot a wheel on the machine, and it seems ta be ready ta go. He always marks off his maint. list exactly what he does... Maybe I'm wrong about MY conclusions, but I only relay what I'm told.

Draw your own conclusions. But please...no hot oil bro!

Uke will fervently deny all statements previously issued. Not to mention Uke's own obvious lack of knowledge when it comes to maintaining a complicated machine, which Uke has no business operating WITHOUT a full course of instructions as to maintenace, AND operating BEST practices.

Snippy may be issued a subpoena at any moment concerning the matters at hand. Be advised, The BurningJournaldotcom Legal Team shall be ready to represent Ranger Uke.

Be forewarned, The BJ Legal Team is known for knowledge of case minutiae unheard of by most self-appointed legal 'experts' such as Snippy.
