Didn't know the UP ran through the old NP/GN junction at Sandpoint. Used ta be a 'shared' access through that area... Spokane International. Was actually a CN/CP way ta get trains inta Washington, and on US rails in the PNW.

Strange... BN, and UP seemed ta have some sorta co-operation of the SI, but... WE used ta see CN, or CP, or SOO power wander inta Spokane, through Yardley way back when I worked for BN in Spokane in Parkwater.

On the way outa Spokane UP runs across that high bridge over Latah Creek ta Sunset Junction, and onto their own rails.

From Spokane, they must run through Cheney, and on down along the same route as the old SP&S, and then diverge after Fish Lake.

That's the single main inta Hermiston ain't it Bob?

Single track TWC from Eastport to Spokane. Then TWC/ABS to Hermiston. The last few miles into Hermiston are CTC.

The line runs past a friend's farm outside Cheney, near Tyler. Quite a few crossings throughout that area. Most of 'em unmarked dirt roads.

I heard about one old guy who waited at the nearest crossing ta my friend's place in Gelb, WA, where Harmony Rd. crosses UP near Lance Hill Rd. Then drove his old Ford into a westbound. When they untangled that one...they just dug a hole for the car. He was inside. Not much left afterwards ta bother scrapin' out...so...

BTW, Union Pacific is 150 years old in 2012! Lotsa changes since thy started out in Omaha, heading west ta meet up with the Central Pacific at Promontory, Utah. Much of the original routes still cross the western states from Nebraska ta California, but after absorbing CNW, MoPac, WP, SP, Katy, T&P, and a few pieces of Rock Island... UP is now about 33,000 route miles. And THE biggest railroad in the world!

Tonnage, revenue... The undisputed champ! HogBob is proud, and deserves many prizes for staying aboard!
