And they both actually work! Yep! And they're very close ta Krink's nabe... Okay a short car trip is required. And some loose change...preferably quarters!

The little town of Snohomish, WA...

Actual functioning 'booth' at the corner of First and Union. And the second 'wall type,' under the overhang outside the public toilets located at the center of First Street.

The phone book is missing from the booth however...

The last time I remember spending time (and money) in Snohomish, the place hadn't really been 'discovered' by the yuppies, and remained undeveloped. Log trucks rolled through town enroute to the mills.

The last operating sawmill is now shut down. Now the place is a tourist-trap for Seattleites, and Canadians with money ta spend for 'antiques.'

Tim suspects the land (Directly across from town) is more valuable as a condominium building site, than the sawmill has ever been...

I'd have to agree. The lumber business is all but dead locally. The only working mill in Snohomish County seems ta be Buse, between Marysville and Everett, which is another reason ta stay at home, instead of driving that I-5 'corridor of death' b'tween the two aforementioned towns!

Snohomish is on this "kick to be cool" thing. I have never figured out
why it costs more to live in Snohomish (property/house values) than
elsewhere. It's really a strange town in my opinion. Great views of
nothing in particular and lots of high power tension lines criss-crossing
the whole area. Also if you live there you more than likely will have
to cross the "Everett Trestle of Death" daily to get to work or shop.
Great place to hang in Snohomish for me is Harvey Field, the local
airport. The Buzz Inn resturant is there. A nice view of the BNSF Scenic
Sub and parachuters and hot air-balloons. A place you can wait for
more than hour.

Up until late 70's-early 80s, SR2 went right through downtown

Snohomish. 3-4-5 stoplights and 25mph speed limits. Always a

traffic nightmare getting through that city. Then they built a

bypass for Highway 2 to go around the city. Made Snohomish

a little bit "sleepier" over night.

Snippy fondly flips off a couple of towns like that and hopes that their leeches who made money off of the traffic went out of business three minutes after the bypass opened. Snippy hopes the cops all got laid off and the taxes skyrocketed. South Hell, Emporia, Clarksville, Stuart.... you know who you are.

"Highway 99" was the first "I-5" on the west coast running from Vancouver BC
south to L.A.. Highway 99 ran right through Bellingham using several different
streets to accomplish the route. I recall the those last days of "Highway 99"
before the "I-5 days". I grew up a mere 6-7 blocks west of "Highway 99"
when it was known as "Elm Street". Recall a very challenging intersection
my folks encountered most times coming home...the one at "North St."
I remember sitting and waiting as a kid at this intersection for a time.
Recall some my folks actually chirping the tires or "laying a patch" to get
across this intersection. The coming of I-5 couldn't have happened at
a better time.

Okay...so where is it, and a picture/photo would certainly be helpful. Just in case a cell thingie couldn't find a signal, or Gawd help us...the battery was dead!

And just ta be sure, check for details at the "PayPhone Directory Project Website." Your newly discovered phone may already be listed. Just sayin'... Check for the state/city, etc. where it's located. And keep a log, and some pocket change in case!
