Minor Train Derailment in South Columbus

COLUMBUS -- A train derailed early Friday morning in South Columbus.

The derailment occurred just after 3:30 a.m. inside the CSX rail yard on Parsons Ave. near Dehring Ave.

Columbus fire officials tell ABC 6/FOX 28 that three cars jumped the tracks and a small amount of fuel leaked.

CSX crews were working to upright the cars and the fuel leak is being cleaned up.

Columbus fire officials tell ABC 6/FOX the derailment ended up being minor.

They confirm two or three empty cars jumped the tracks and a small amount of fuel was leaked.

Hazmat crews were not needed, and emergency responders were able to leave the scene around 4:30 a.m.

CSX was working to upright the cars and clean up the fuel spill.

The minor derailment came just 16 days after a major derailment near the Ohio State Fairgrounds.

The National Transportation Safety Board investigation into the Norfolk Southern derailment remains on going.

Earlier this week the NTSB announced it could be a year before they determine exactly what caused the 17 car derailment and explosion.
