Back in the seventies, the Red Team ran some named trains, the New York Cannonball and the St. Louis Cannonball, the NYC and the SLC. Also, there was the East Coast Expeditor, or the ECE. The Cannonballs ran to and from the Erie-Lackawanna at Huntington, IN. Different times, different world.
There was even talk of a Peru-Marion, OH, pool, running over both railroads but the Peru men wanted half, based on business, in a typical greedy move by them, even though by mileage, they had only 32 miles. Those Peruvians tried to screw over everyone they ever came in contact with.
I'll never forget old D D Davis and his crew getting in trouble at Boligee, when they were doubling thier train together to come North, and the rearend released and ran out backwards down the hill, right out in front of The Crescent.
