The "fog-horn" train whistle.

Growing up in Bham, there were 2 different whistle sounds during

the railroad activity daily. The GN and NP had the more modern

"multi-chime" train horns while the Milwaukee had the "fog-horn"

whistle. Not exactly sure when the "fog-horn" whistle died from use.

Know the SP used the "fog-horn" whistle watching the old videos.

Train whistles...I can usally tell from 7 miles away what kind of

"train" it is. The Amtrak whistle on the diesel fleet, is a whistle

that is easy to recognize from the rest. Yeah...the "fog-horn"

whistle/honk is deeply imbedded in my memory banks.
