This is a busy place on the BNSF 30 miles north of Seattle.

All kinds of junctions...Everett Jct., P.A.Jct, Sealine Jct,

Delta Jct, GN Jct, Lowell Jct, which makes covering every

thing at once impossible. So you have to pick your spots

and hope for max action. BNSF Everett has changed quite

a lot since I left in 1998.

I know every member here loves a good train picture and

I want to post some of the new stuff I take ...like the minute

I got home Saturday evening I want to show these shots

off.

OK...Amtrak #8 the Empire Builder heading for Chicago goes

by dead stack train at Lowell. Happy with both shots. Then

the "EVESPO" (Everett-Spokane) comes from Delta Yard

down the "Lowell Running"track and comes along side the

dead stack train. I'm happy with those shots. So we got

2 eastbounds sitting waiting for a signal to go east and

10 minutes after AMTK #8 passed, neither train gets a

signal to move so I'm thinking that a westbound of

importance like a Z train must be coming so I "abandon

my spot" to go east to get the westbound Z towards

Snohomish. I want a "do-over" on that decision. If I would

have stayed atop that pedestrian overpass at Lowell

where I was for 14 minutes longer, I would have captured

a "3-wide" shot...3 train snouts in the same shot as the

westbound I thought was coming was another eastbound

Hopefully I get another chance at this configuration.

Thanks Krink!

They used ta send us ta Everett ta troubleshoot 'failures' sitting right there... Hated crossing those rails along that curve... Ya could hardly see past the train you headed for with tools and shit, after two or three trips, they gave us a hand-held we could set ta scan... After 2009 they just tagged, dragged, and replaced the failed power. Crews of course deadheaded home!

The train just sat for lack of power. Not no mo! BNSF seems ta have more'n enough horses for eastbounds now!

Looks like BNSF HAWGS forget that the sanders are on while waiting by the hour. Misuse of Uncle Warren's stuff.

Ya oughta see Interbay... Some ass wipe hosteler, or hog brings power in, ties it down and flips the manual sand switch up, climbs down, and the shuttle drives 'em back ta the yard. They do it every time! By the time our bunch moves the units over for fuel, and servicing the sand boxes are dry!

I should grab a few pics before I leave! Poor Uncle Warren... It'd break his heart if he knew!

Back in the old days (daze?) when we used to run to NA down in TQCOTW via the old route and sit on what was then CSX and is now I&O for hours and hours at a time, while waiting for everything else in the world to run, there was enough sand there to open a beach.

You don't have Lead Axle Sander switches?

Spring loaded pushbutton horn and sanding controls should be outlawed. Pushbutton horns are the worst. Snippy hopes that railroads end up paying out billions of dollars in some sort of repetitive stress injury claims for them.

On LAMCO, our cab design committee has gotten rid of pushbuttons. Now, to keep the foreigners from stealing our screw-on Sander Flippers is another story...

I know what you are talking about Cy. Skykomish and Scenic
up on the hill, all the sidings near each end have piles of sand
every so feet. Everett has been an off-loading port for
aluminum ore (bauxite) since the early 70's and loaded in
to C6 hoppers for transport to Conkelley Montana. This
aluminum ore looks just like white sand. I got piles
of this spilt aluminum ore in every yard picture. Seems getting
those bottom hatches closed tight on the covered hoppers
was a problem. There was always a leaker. Those days are
gone now as that business ended.

They dont have sanding switches on CSXT.

CSXT has sanding buttons.

You have to hold the button down against spring pressure for as long as you need sand.

On the square ones a dime works pretty good, wedged in along side the button to hold it in.

The round ones are more of a pain. However, after going to Advance auto and investing 3 bucks in

a handy little flat feeler gague, you can mix and match thickness needed to hold those tricky

little bastages in tu.

Oh, and forget about sand over 10 mph.

Now, there are some exceptions. Far be it from me to expose these to further scrutiny.

A, most have Lead Axle sander Buttons. The ones that have switches most likely have a spring loaded switch levers.

I've noticed on the ES44AH's you can operate the spring loaded switch and get about 30 seconds of sand, so you have to

keep clicking the switch. (No way to hold the switch in the on position And if you did youd only get the 30 sec worth. it has

to reset before it will sand again)

B. Haven't seen one yet, but thanks for the Heads Up!!smile

I used to take fusees to push the button on those horns and sanders on those GAWDFORSAKEN desktop POS. Handle end worked pretty well, when it got frayed, I got another fusee. Which reminds me of how much I hated those phukkers.
