The Sunflower Forest is passing its peak right now.
All the sunflowers that only produce one head are
all hanging down like a shower-head. The others are
the "keep cranking out flowers" until it freezes.
These are the tallest of the forest with some reaching
10-12ft high. I try to take as many sunflower pictures
with the sky in the background as I can. Had this idea
with photoshop to eliminate the stems and some leaves
to make the sunflower appear to be "hanging" in air.
I love it.

Very nice. But the question remains: Whaddya do with all the sun flowers after they drop? Is it seeds.. Lotsa bird food there... Get shitloads of birds through the nasty winter we're supposedly in for. That it? Save the heads, strip seeds after they dry, or what?

The Sunflower Forest is now closed for the season.
Yea...in a 10-15 minutes super T-Storm shower and
accompaning "severe wind shear", I witnessed my
sunflower forest being flattened in slow-motion right
before my eyes. This is the hardest I've ever seen it rain.
Was in the garage without my camera and could hear
the intensity of the rain grow by the second to where
it was a huge roar and then some "pulses" of "solid rain"
where it sounded like "a pound" on the roof and it was
violently wet outside. This one hour of weather destroyed
most of my garden. Thats the way it is gardening.

A sunflower once knocked down cannot rise up on its own.
I'm the decider as what sunflower gets to be resurected/
re-erected. Not an easy task as you need to find a stake/
pole and jab it into the ground deep enough to hold a top-
heavy sunflower plant upright. These tops of the multi-
flowering sunflowers can approach 10lbs so once they get
leaning one way its just a matter of time before "timber".
I spent 3hrs out in the garden trying "fix" things and am
happy what I have left standing. Many plants got yanked
today as the only solution.

Well a whole year has passed and now its "sunflowers 2014".
I wasnt going to repeat the "sunflower forest" theme of 2013
and dint plant a single seed of anything this spring or this
summer. Dint want be watering all summer long. Well I've
learned as a gardener about "volunteers"..those dropped
seeds or missed potatoes in the ground that emerge according
to natures schedule and if you are good at identifying these
sprouts..and if you want them to mature..and are good at
transplanting..you could end up with a garden you never planned
and thats the case with my "10-plant sunflower forest". All but
one came from my gravel driveway. They were about 2" tall
but knew right away what they were and carefully dug them
out of the driveway and moved them to my garden area.
The "10th one" came from a winebarrel that I had nothing
growing in it and it turns out to be a sunflower type that I
never planted ever. Seems some of my volunteer sunflowers
have landed next door on each side as there will lots of
photo-ops almost to the same degree as if I repeated the
"sunflower forest" for 2014. How cool is that.

My peach tree for the first time since 2010 got "super-
pollintated" and I'm looking the maximum harvest
of 200-300 peaches which are 3-weeks ahead of any
previous recorded harvest. I last canned peaches in
2010 and dont think I've opened one jar. If you have
a peach tree and eat dozens of fresh right off the tree
perfectly ripe peaches every August..you can get your
fill to last to next year. I've made peach syrup some
years and peach jam. One year I think I "juiced" about
100 peaches and made peach juice, peach juice ice cubes,
peach juice cocktails. The first peaches of 2014 were picked
on Aug 2nd and they were monsters. The biggest one was
just a tick short of a pound. I ate that one and it was as
good as a peach could be. This is a Frost Peach Tree that
I have. This one limb of the tree had some really big
peaches on it wheras the rest of the tree has more
MLB baseball sized fruit. Dont have long to decide what
to do with all these peaches as any day they get picked
and after you pickem..you got to do something with them.

So since I have so many peaches on my kitchen counter
right now..I got to use some "up" and no better way to
use some very tastey peaches "up" than a peach pie.
I havent made a pie in a while but I know the proceedure
and it took a little longer to get this pie made and into the
oven but the results were very very very good. Too bad
I cant place one of my peach pies on the BJ and you all
just help yourself to a slice.
