A BNSF Railway spokeswoman says one of her company's trains from New Mexico bound for Richmond, Calif., was involved around 3 a.m. Monday in a rear-end crash with a Union Pacific train.
Lena Kent says the BNSF train was hauling automobiles.
A Union Pacific spokesman says the crash happened southwest of Highway 58 just east of Broome Road, between Bakersfield and Tehachapi. He says one Union Pacific locomotive derailed upright. Four Union Pacific rail cars also derailed on their sides.
Aaron Hunt of Union Pacific says the crash happened just south of Tehachapi Loop in an area known as Walong, an unincorporated part of Kern County. No injuries were reported.
