"100 mile'r envelopes"...the envelope with 2 holes in it.

I got out my huge tupperaware tub completely full

to the top of nothing but railroad "paper" getting

ready for MIR and scanning some of this railroad paper.

When I hired on the BN 2-14-73 the inter-office or BN

mail was mainly by these "100 mile envelopes" that

had the 2-holes punched through the envelope

and it was not sealed just a tuck and thats the

way I recieved all kinds of stuff. Nasty letters usually

were in a white envelope and sealed. So as time went

on I started to notice a "collection" of these things coming

on. So as a clerk I was alway was going through desks

and shit and it finally ended with what I have after I left.

You would have to work for the railroad to know these

100 mile envelopes. I cant remember if I ever got a "bump

notice" in a 100 mile envelope. Maybe.

They still use them here as you say for non-sensitive information and we call them "thousand milers".
