Defunct? Possibly. Two of their leased Geeps are sitting in Balmer Yard in a string of cars.

Looked 'em up and found that they were a branch line in BC, spun off by CN. Maybe 140+/- miles, serving a couple lumber mills.

Might be a little short on customers, maybe we could get a big grant to develop a customer base.

The KPR was shut down, for a few months. The original parent company was called Knight Hawk Transportation, and bled any profit off the company constantly. The men were paid in cash several times near the end, and their track was limited to 10 mph. Ironically their M.O.W division, did very well and did a lot of contract work for the CP and CN. Those Geeps you refer to sat in Vancouver for 2 months and were waiting to go south with a yankee BN crew on late Thursday evening.

Currently the CN is upgrading the KPR track and has taken over running them as a branch line. Not a lot of business, a couple of feed mills, 2 lumber mills ( big mills though), a scrap yard, food cold storage warehouse and a team track where they are loading ski boats into auto racks.

The majority of the employee's in operations are retiree's from BCR and CP. At one point they had a common spare board with another local RR owned by Omnitrax. Most guys were getting 1or 2 days a week off the board, and 2 shifts swinging a hammer on the MOW crew.

Thanks steam! Hate ta see a half decent shortie disappear, especially one that works, and employs folks! I'll try ta get a shot of the two Geeps... Looks like leasers from GATX, with one of 'em boarded up! Better check before they're gone.

Well then, it could work if it was employee owned, and the mindset was not to bleed it dry Romney style.

Will we need a wheel machine?

Nah! Just drag B/O units ta Interbay where they have (finally) a fully operational wheel machine. BNSF loves contract locomotive/frieghtcar work because it pays (cash) ta Uncle Warren's bottom line!

Rather would have a picture of the graffiti on the white box car in the background.

If we buy this shoreline, we have to have a caboose on every trip. Five or more crew members tu.
