Had doubts about these guys after spring training, and first year manager Mc Clendon. Lately they've been tearing it up, and at the half-way point, they very well could be in the Wild Card Race. They're solidly holding on ta third place in the AL West! A few reasons why:

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/sea/five-reasons-for-seattle-mariners-recent-success?ymd=20140703&content_id=82902324&vkey=news_sea

But we've been here before. However things are a bit different this time 'round, and for once this club is NOT in a rebuilding mode. They're going at it with some real experienced guys, and they're doing it right this time. They've got a solid mix of veterans, and young upstarts... And a bullpen that's second ta none!

Thats a good article Uke. The M's will have a 5-man rotation second
to none when James Paxton returns. Taijuan Walker returned for his
first start of 2014 and what a physical specimin Taijuan is. 6'5" and
well built and can throw a 97mph fastball with little physical effort.
Its like he throws in slow motion and bam 97mph fastball right on the
corner of the plate. He won his first start thanks to the now very explosive
M's offence. Iwakuma back on track with MIR overwith with a redeeming
performance against the Astros. So King Felix, Iwakuma, Chris Young,
and Roenis Elias make up the "fab-4" and the number 5 starter has been
the weak link so far but when James Paxton get back it will be the "Fab-5".
M's have the best bullpen in the AL. Fernando Rodney is pitching lights-out
and at the top of the league in saves. James Jones took over for Abraham
Almonte in centerfield first of May and he's staying. Hitting .300, stealing
bases, he's your "Willie Mays Hayes" from the movie. Runs like he's in
a track meet. James Jones rookie baseball card is going to be one to
hang on to. Endy Chavez has been the latest M's designated hitter and
leading off. Endy part of that Venezuelan group in the dugout with King
Felix and several others. Robinson Cano is a joy to watch in the M's uniform
as the guy gets timely hits and great play at 2nd base. Kyle Seager is
going to make his name known to all of baseball this year. Justin Smoak
going on the DL opened the door for Logan Morrison to be the everyday
1st base and "LoMO" has done some exciting things with the bat and
a good glove at 1st. Smoak may have a hard time getting back into the
line-up again. Its seems every batter in the M's line-up can hit a double
every AB.

Jonesey just loves ta tease the hell outa pitchers, and catchers... That he gets away with as many steals as he has... Amazes everybody! He explodes as if starting from blocks at a track meet, running a 100 yd. sprint!

He's one hell of a fielder too... Sprints to where long balls drop, and makes a catch. Yeah he's been nailed stealing, and has missed a few catches, but aside from those few opportunities, the guy's a winner!

Kyle Seager seems ta be well grounded in his spot tu! He's a great hitter. Their bullpen, and the regular rotation with Iwakuma in there... This Ms team, 2014 version might just get to the post season. But it's half-time now.

After the "All Star" fiasco, that's where the proof of the Mariners pudding will show just how real they are! Countdown from 82 starts again!

They sure got spanked by the White Sox this afternoon. The Ms were damn near shut out... That one run in the 9th. was all they managed against the 'Sox pitcher Sale who went all the way, giving up a measly six hits on the way. He struck out 12, walked two, and all but silenced the Mariner bats until the 6th.

They'll play again tomorrow, and Sunday before they come home for seven games. Might hafta go ta "Safeco Field" for one of the A's games!

Chris Sale continued his push for his third straight All-Star Game appearance, allowing six hits and fanning 12 in a complete-game effort, and Jose Abreu extended his hitting streak to 18 games with a two-run homer, one of three long balls the White Sox hit in a win over Seattle.

The M's are going to run into the other teams best pitcher during a series
at their home park and Chris Sale was that pitcher. The M's had no chance
against him on Friday. Saturday a new day and new stikes. The weather
for Sundays game sure looks ominous. Hope the M's can get out of Chicago
without a "make-up" game to be play later in the season.

One game lost to a so-so Chicago team that probably won't reach the post season. Meanwhile Art Theil has much ta say about "Your 2014 Mariners" Krink:

Click on the PLAY thing >/arrow ta hear Art's commentary. Seems this manager knows how ta use the bench, and the 'pen tu!

They're all tied up at 2-2 in the top of the 14th. Both teams coulda shut it down earlier... But failed ta capitalize with runners in scoring position, more than once. The Ms loaded bases in the 11th. and blew that one.

They've about exhausted the bull pens... Unreal. Good thing it's a day game. This could go on a while longer yet. Somebody's gotta score soon!

Felix Hernandez went seven and gave up two runs. He came out with no decision. Ms have one out, and a runner on 1st. at the top of 14!

The Mariners rallied to tie the White Sox in the ninth, and then Brad Miller drove in the go-ahead run on a ground-rule double in the 14th inning to help lead Seattle to victory in a game that began with a pitchers' duel between Jose Quintana and Felix Hernandez.

I watched this game from the 11:10 AM PDT start time and King Felix is
pitching. King Felix pitched 7-innings of 1-hit shut-out ball and was throwing
"no-hit" stuff. Starts off the 8th giving up a lead-off triple and then a double
and I'm going oh-no..I just cant watch King Felix get this far and pitch so
well for this to happen and it looked pretty bad and sure to give up 2-runs
in the bottom of the 8th when the M's have "0" and this sure "looks" likes
another King Felix tough luck day when the M's offence does nada. So I
needed to get into the shower and get cleaned up for the day plus I had to
make a run up to the store for a few things. So once I'm out of the shower
and dressed I check the TV and the M's have 2-runners on in scoring position
and damned if they dont tie the game at 2-2 in the 9th inning. Extra innings.
I watched innings 10-11 from my uneasy chair. Need to get to the store
so I go to the store and listen to the game on the car radio and get what
I need and listen some more on the drive home. So turn the TV on once again
and its the 13th inning still tied 2-2. The 14th inning M's get it going and
score a run. Bring in Fernando Rodney and game over. This is a big win.
M's bullpen gives up nada innings 9-14. Just an amazing game in the
"Mariner-log". Hope the weather allows Sundays game 3 because I think
the M's can "take" Hector Noesi whom the M's released a couple months
ago. How Chicago thought Hector would make for a "starting pitcher again"
is beyond me. We'll see how it goes Sunday.

Wow..the M's lose 3 of 4 at home against the Minnesota Twins.
This was supposed to be the M's best chance to "continue the
games over .500 pace" they've been going on. Well it seems
win number "50" is going to have to come against the visiting
Oakland A's starting Friday night. Minnesota Twins never change
year to year. They always seem to be made up with players
you never heard before except for Joe Mauer and they end
up proving themselves in a 4-game series. Think you never heard
of the Twins "line-up", I know you never heard of their bullpen
except for Perkins their closer and going to the All-Star Game.
The M's offence seems to be on "stymied" the last 4-games games.
Somebody needs to get it going and hope its contageous.
M's have a chance to gain 3-games in the standings if they
can win some games against the A's this homestand. M's have
"re-racked" their starting rotation to have King Felix, Iwakuma,
and Chris Young going against the visiting A's this series.
Should be some great games at Safeco this weekend if the
M's bats come alive. That would be my wish/thought to see
the M's bats go into "hit it way-out" mode and and take
this series at home against the A's just before the All-Star break.
The M's at the All-Star break need to get some rest and do
some "re-grouping" and do some great things the last half
of the "162 games".

Mariners won last night's game 3-2 against the A's. Good game, very tough pitching battle. Felix gave up TWO solo homers in the first two innings, but settled down after that. Then went on ta strike out 9 into the 8th. inning and notched the win.

Tonight it's Iwakuma...

Friday night with King Felix going against the A's and its 90 degrees
in Seattle and 38,000 fans at Safeco. The "Kings Court" which continues
to grow every start to who knows how far as they sold "11 sections"
of stands for this game. They even had a section above in the 3rd level
above the left-field foul-pole and they were quickly recognized as the
"Kings High Court". Whether you are sitting high or low you got your
bright yellow T-shirt and big yellow "K" card and you buy a ticket to sit
there because you want to support King Felix every time he pitches.
Depending on where the TV coverage wants to place the microphones
around Safeco regarding the noise the "Kings Court" makes when
Felix has 2-strikes on a batter, whether you are in the stadium or
watching it on TV, the "K K K K K K K " chant can get very powerful
and Felix never seems distracted with that chanting. Sometimes
I wonder if all this chanting could be distracting to the King but
he's able to harness this noise into extraordinary pitching performances
and the opposing batter has some very distacting noise waiting for
King Felix to toss a 90mph "Change-up" by you or you go for wild
swing at strike-3 when the ball bounced in front of home plate.
King Felix now awaiting the word if he starts the All-Star game in
Minnesota Next Tuesday.

I was wondering why the M's dint have King Felix and Iwakuma going
back-to-back so far this season as I know the M's did it last season
and it worked great. Hope this rotation continues the rest of the season
as facing King Felix and Iwakuma in consecutive nights the M's can
gain some speed. Chris Young the M's 3rd starting pitcher has pitched
real good and we'll see how he handles the A's on Sunday. Back to
Saturday, Iwakuma pitched a gem. Shutout going for 8 2/3 innings
but Brandon Moss hit a 2-run hr to spoil it. M's win 6-2.

Four (4) Mariners named ta the AL "All Star" team!

Mariners Fernando Rodney named to All-Star game

|

Seattle Mariners closer Fernando Rodney was added to the American League All-Star team on Saturday after A.L. manager John Farrell named him to replace Tampa Bay Rays starter David Price.

Rodneys appointment makes him the fourth Mariner to make the active roster for Tuesdays game, joining starting pitcher Felix Hernandez, second baseman Robinson Cano and third baseman Kyle Seager, who was added to the team on Monday as an injury replacement.

The four give Seattle its most All-Star representatives since 2003, when the team sent Ichiro Suzuki, Edgar Martinez, Shigetoshi Hasegawa, Jamie Moyer and Brett Boone to the Midsummer Classic.

Rodney, 37, was an All-Star in 2012 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. After a rocky start with Seattle where he blew two of his first fourteen save opportunities, Rodney has settled down nicely. He currently sports a 1.98 ERA and leads the A.L. with 27 saves though some of those may be a bit more adventurous than Mariners fans would prefer.

Rodney signed a two-year, $13 million deal with the Ms on February 13 after stops in Detroit, Anaheim and Tampa Bay. He has 199 career saves and a 3.60 ERA over a 12-year career.
