What to do when your radio station has a pledge-drive

I hate when KPLU has its pledge-drives with some

astronomical pledge goal which drags the thing to

all week. I dint think I had much alternate to a

radio station but it turns out I might have. Everett's

KSER is having a pledge drive at same time KPLU

is having theirs. So I havent listened to KSER much

over the last few years because of just too many DJ's

that just mumbled in their stew and just an "unfinished

product" radio station but have to say things are "getting

there" now. David Ossman of Firesign Theatre fame which

lives on Whidbey Island used to do shows at KSER on

Saturdays back in the 1990's and still supports the station

enough to get a transmitter in Freeland not to far from

where he lives. Anyway if you have to choose between

radio stations holding pledge drives at the same time,

I'm going to have to go with KSER on this one as its

been some great listening with minimal "begging".

Here's the link to the station and you can click the

listen live button on the home page. KSER is getting

better and attracting more DJ's of distinction. Could

I be so lucky that the FM station that pegs my reception

meter could be as good as KEXP in Seattle . Everett

has no soul or culture so that means the its "wide-

open" for some souls to continue their way up in

radio. I sure have liked the late night music the last

few nights. Click on listen live and see whats playing.

Been a supporter of 'public' radio for over 30 years. The drive at KPLU this go isn't about money. It's about numbers. When it started they had a goal of achieving 3500 'pledges' by this Friday. Five days. Period! Not bad really. Uke's in again. For another year.

Gawd knows I spring for enough $25-$50 even a c note meals that leave me less than satisfied, even a little ill sometimes. Just because people feel the need to eat out and consider this a sign of sociability. I'm with my astute and learned brother Snipey. Support what makes ya feel good, at least a little bit, if you can.
