I think Lionel does a discredit to railroad history. First clue
is 3-rail track..where in the hell did that idea come from.
Since their beginning Lionel has been getting by with the
most clumsly designed model trains. Pretty much no real
detail to any locomotive or rolling stock. I left Lionel for
the wonderful world of "HO".

Lionel made toy trains for kids.

They made a lotta money, a lotta years. 50's or older examples bring big bucks from collectors.

Most kids playing trains were not worried if the GP-9 toy had the right number of louvers in the 3rd

carbody door behind the cab on the engineers side. They were thrilled, however, to press the button

on the transformer that made the whistle tender on the steam engine blow. After a few laps trains can get boring to kids so the next thing ya know, its how fast can we go around the curves? What can we smash into? Can I chase the cat/dog with a train? etc etc. This stuff was generally built to take it. drop off the table to the floor? No Prob.

95% are sold to kids as toys. toys that, just like a number or things, that a few have made it thru the decades and are wanted by everyone. For a couple hours at most. Then its back to texting or video games.

Nope, just went in the room and looked, no F anywhere.

Don't think Lionel knew what a F was.

What Calvin said. Lionel was a train-set gift to a young child in
the 1950's that either was a railroad enthusiast or turned out
different. Have to say I turned out different but I have railroad
blood so I can never stray to far away.

The longer I live I see just about every extreme a railfan
is willing to re-create from days gone by. I just keep watching
for the next rich railfan idiot to spend millions on restoring
a steam locomotive or some fine dining cars. "Idiot" may not
be the word.."enthusiast". The old trains are in everybodies
incarnations so lets see what ends up on a TV Show next.
