This 3-game series was basically a sell-out at 43k fans for the
series...why you might ask? Because it was the only chance all
season that the Toronto Blue Jays visit Seattle. No better reason
for most of Vancouver BC's Blue Jays/Mariners fans to make the
trip down to Seattle. The crowd noise at Safeco seemed equally
"divided" between the M's and the Jays and it was noisy all 3-games.
King Felix was his usual self and quieted the Blue Jay offence to
gain his 12th win on Friday night. Saturday morning I turn on my
bedside radio to listen to a Vancouver BC all-news station that
reports the waits at the Border every 10 minutes and at 9AM it
was 2hrs from Canada to the USA...10AM same 2hr back-up.
Pretty sure it most of the cars lined-up to come across the border
were heading to Safeco Field. Game 2 with M's J. Happ pitching
did not go well and a perfect example of a baseball game played
under exact Mars squre Uranus aspects as the M's lose it ugly late.
That same aspect was on the M's side Sunday as Franklin Gutierrez
hits a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 10th for a M's 6-5 win to
take the 3-game series. "Guti" is looking very good since getting
back. Looked at his transits the past couple years he was out
either injured or ill and he had a transiting Neptune his Sun.
Neptune has moved on from this enough now that Guti can have
his career back and he has been what the M's need lately.
Guti is such a cool customer and he's ready to make a difference
to the ballclub.

Next in Seattle are the Arizona Diamondbacks...the club Randy
Johnson wanted on his HOF plack. Randy Johnson would have
to be my favorite pitcher as I saw him pitch for 10-seasons
for the M's. The "Big-Unit" pitching means you got a real good
at getting the win.

Well its pretty obvious now that the M's arent going to be any
threat for the 2015 post-season. The M's taking the series against
the Blue Jays was a possible "springboard forward" series during
Venus Retrograde but the Arizona Diamondbacks pretty much sealed
the deal for the M's 2015 as they swept the 3-game series at Safeco.
M's starting pitching all had a ruff go. Iwakuma gave up 6-runs and
King Felix gives up 7 runs for the 3rd time this season. Just as the offence
was heating up with Seager, Cruz, Cano, the M's starting pitching failing
in early innings which wears out the bullpen over time. The bullpen has
not been spot-on lately. Charlie Furbush went on the DL. Fernando Rodney
apparently "tipping-off" his pitches contributing to his latest struggles.
Latest M's closer Carson Smith has 2 consecutive disastrous outings.
All this wont be sorted out during Venus retrograde as the M's will slide
to the basement along with Oakland. With the trade deadline close...
I wonder what M's are up for trade.

Well late Thursday afternoon the M's announce that Dustin Ackley
has been traded to the Yankees for 2 prospects. Drafted years ago
to be the M's everyday 2nd baseman. Did OK at 2nd base and hit well
first year. Then M's sign Robbie Cano for 10 yrs at 2nd base and
where could Dustin Ackley play to stay on the team. Ackley goes
to the outfield and does OK. The thing that sealed Ack's fate is
that a ballclub cant wait for a ballplayer to get hot the last 2-months
of the season and suck the prior 4-months. Yankees may strike
gold with this deal as Ack gets hot late season and may be a good
pick-up. Dustin Ackley has been the "bearded-one" on the M's and
now he goes to "clean-shaven" NY Yankees. Good luck Dustin Ackley.

The M's made a couple more deals on "trading day" sending
ace reliever Mark Lowe to the Blue Jays for prospects. Lowe
probly the M's best in the bullpen all year and he will be missed.
Next is a deal I liked immediately as the M's ship J. Happ to
Pittsburgh for prospects. J. Happ ex-Blue Jay...a totally "non-
descript" kind of pitcher who managed a 4-4 record with the M's
and hammered hard the last few starts. Pittsburgh may see Happ
as a reliever...or a pain. Jesus Montero going to get a couple
months to show what he can do with the bat on his 2nd call-up
from Tacoma.

M's visit Minneapolis and get all 4-games in with no weather
issues and get a 2-2 series split with the Twins. Game one had
J. Happ looking pretty happless as he gives up 9 hits and 7-runs
in 3 innings in his last start as a Mariner. Twins win this game 9-4
but Nelson Cruz hits a homer and is on fire. Happ gets traded to
the Pirates right after this worst of pitching performances. M's
have to feel good about this trade. Game two was a masterpiece
of pitching by M's Taijuan Walker as all the Twins batters could
do is stand and look as this should of been a no-hitter except
for the big Twins 3rd baseman Sano hits one out for the only
hit of the game for the Twins as M's win 6-1. Game 3 has M's
Mike Montgomery coming off a bad start hoping to do better
and he goes 6-innings giving up one run. Nelson Cruz hit his 28th
to give the M's a 2-1 lead going into the 9th. M's closer Carson
Smith having just blown his last 2 chances made it 3 as the Twins
come up with a walk-off 3-2 win on 2 wild pitches. Game 4 had
Iwakuma on the mound for the M's and he has redeemed himself
and pitching like the back of his baseball card says he can. Kuma
goes 9-innings before giving up a homer to Brian Dozier of the
Twins after M's Nelson Cruz hit his 29th in the M's top of the 9th
to tie the game. Iwakuma pitching like this has to give M's fans
something good going forward. M's offence decides this game in
the top of the 11th and get a 4-1 win. Nelson Cruz is on fire at the plate.
Next up is a 3-game series in Denver CO with the Rockies. M's
pitchers need to take batting practice. I know one pitcher chomping
at the bit to hit and that would be King Felix. The King gets the start
game 1 at Coors Field. See how the King does at the plate Monday...
in multiple ways.

Wow! Coors Field has huge dimensions and that isnt enough
as the ball can fly out of here as I saw some hits that got way
more distance than planned. So the M's have King Felix making
his first start at Coors Field ( think the King has pitched at every
MLB park now in his career) and as history proved...King Felix
dont lose 2-games in a row and came back with "King Felix"
and shutdown the Rockies for 6 1/3rd innings but gives up 4-runs
but the M's have a 8-4 lead. M's bullpen still not "settled" as
Fernando Rodney and Carson Smith have blown relief opportunities
lately. Carson Smith comes in to close the 9th inning with a 8-4
lead and gives up 3-runs but gets the important strike-out to
end the game as the M's win gut-wretching game 8-7. Nelson
Cruz hits his 4th homer in as many games and Cano and Seager
just as hot, King Felix gets his 13th win to go 13-6.
Game 2 M's offence went on the rampage and Nelson Cruz hits
his 5th hr in as many games. M's have to go with a "bullpen by
commitee" starter as with the recent trades no starter for this game.
Vidal Nuno gets the start and goes 3 1/3rd and thankfully the M's
offence comes up with 10-runs across the plate on 14-hits and the
M's win big 10-4.
Game 3 M's at Rockies went like a few other MLB games around the
league with an ugly finish. Tiwon Walker pitching great again..a
shutout until the 6th when he gives up a 3-run shot. Game 3-3 and
my favorite Mariner lately Franklin Guti..hits a 2-run shot to make
it 5-3 M's. 9th inning is a disaster for the M's. M's manager Lloyd
McClendon goes with Joe Biemel to start the 9th and Joe gets out
number one with ease. Then Lloyd brings in Rodney to get the final
2-outs. Well Rodney cant find the plate and gives up a 2-run hit
and its 5-5. Rockies win on a 2-run shot in the bottom of the 11th
7-5. Glad to get out of Denver with a series win. Nelson Cruz
doesnt get his 6th homer in as many games but he will start
another streak soon. M's home Friday for a 3-games series
with the Texas Rangers.

M's host the Texas Rangers for a 3-game series and it was thrills
and spills. Friday night Iwakuma on the mound and goes 7-innings
giving up 3-runs. Iwakuma looks to be back to being a prime
pitcher again which is good news for the M's as "Kuma" gets
the win. Mark Trumbo..Nelson Cruz..and Robbie Cano go deep
and M's win 4-3.
Saturday M's rookie pitcher Mike Montgomery facing the Rangers
for the 1st time and can only go 4-innings giving up 3-runs.
The M's bullpen kept it at 3-runs until the 11th inning when they
gave up 8-runs...yes 8-runs. Feel sorry for the fans in attendance
at this game.
Sunday at Safeco Field is alive with the "Kings Court" as King Felix
going for his 14th win. The King pitching most of his M's career with
"long pants" (meaning his pant cuffs came down to his ankles/shoes and
no sign of stockings) but the King must be going through some changes
as he got rid of the chin-hair thing he had going and going to what has
becoming an ever evolving thing with M's players lately to go to "short
pants long sox" look. Well it seemed to work for the King as he turns
in another "super-start" going 7-innings and giving 2-runs or less to
pick-up his MLB tieing 14th win. Nelson Cruz is an absolute terror
at the plate hitting his 33rd.
Baltimore comes to Safeco Field for a 3-game serious next.
M's need to string some wins together and soon.

Well pretty much the M's vs Baltimore 3-game series ended with
Iwakuma tossing a no-no...5th in M's history. I've watched on TV
every one previous and Kuma's gem today. Couldnt happen to
to better person/soul. Remember when the M's signed him and
Ichiro was with the team and the need for a "translator" person
from Japanese to English. Well that translator got pressed into
duty bigtime after Kuma's no-hitter. Seattle takes the 3-game
series 2-1 and continues to "try" to get in the hunt again.

Hope springs eternal. And maybe we'll see a repeat of the King's magic, or not. It wasn't to be today though. Nope!

I'm holding my report until after the Sunday game at Fenway.
Best/worst example of Venus in Retrograde baseball so far.

The M's fly into Boston and have a day-off in Boston. The last
played game by the M's was a no-hitter by Iwakuma in Seattle.
For the M's...they will remember this Venus in Retrograde trip to
Boston for the rest of their lives as games one and two were
the most lop-sided defeats in Mariner team history. Game 1
M's rookie Mike Montgomery goes 2 1/3 innings and gives up 10
hits and 9 runs. The M's bullpen gives up another 6 runs. The M's
lone run came on a 1st inning HR by Kyle Seager to make it a 15-1
game. Games like that can happen at Fenway so you go to bed and
say it will be different tomorrow. Well tomorrow the VIR bug was
very present as King Felix...known to get M's back after a loss with
a win..totally got hammered by Bosox hitters and the worst start
of his major league career. The King goes 2 1/3 and gives up 12 hits
and 10 runs. The King said it was "embarrassing". Not the first time
this season the King has had some meltdowns this season still he's
leading the AL in victories. So Felix gives up 10-runs and the M's
bullpen give up another 12-runs to make the humiliation complete.
Jeebus Sucre..the M's backup catcher pitches the bottom of the 8th
for the M's...2nd time Sucre has pitched for the M's this season and
the final score is 22-10 Boston. The M's managed to score 10-runs
this game which would be enough to win a game big ordinarily.
M's scored 8-runs in the 8th-9th capped-off by Nelson Cruz hitting
his 35th. So a Sunday day-game at Fenway and the M's need to
get a win. Great start as they go up 7-0 on Robinson Cano going
5-7 in this game with a HR and a bunch of RBI's, Guti goes deep
twice, Cruz hits his 36th but yet the M's pitching allows Boston
to tie the game at 8-8 in the 9th. M's bullpen is wore-out but
somehow they were the better this day as the M's score 2-runs
in the top of the 12th and get atleast one win in this 3-game series.
Glad this wasnt a 4-game series as the M's head off to Texas
to play the Rangers in their ballpark which is the same as Fenway
as no lead is safe. Think its supposed to be hot temperatures
in the Dallas-Ft Worthless area this visit.
