I know crude oil has been shipped for years over the mountains
by the SP to California..the so called "oil-cans" with a pretty
good record I think. I mean the railroads dont have a
speed restriction on a car of butane or LPG or propane
as they could blow-up a whole city but very few over
the last 30-40 years. Whisking right along hazmat or very explosive
cargo has been going on since my time with no notice or
complaint by the public. Its been a "what you dont know
wont hurt you" and you never know different until a derailment
happens in your dinky town or bigger than a dinky town.
The media is locked in now on any oil train mishap.
I mentioned in the BNSF Galena derailment recently that
they need to do some "pre-refining" and reduce the volitile
nature before loading into a railroad tankcar. Well it seems
I wasnt the only one to have that thought. Think this will
be a big help. I mean you are called out for a "loaded oil" for
2300hrs tonight..its the currently very volite Bakken Crude
train and you look up and see a full moon. I was hoping to read
a newstory like this one.
