...now where is Neosho? Who knows. They sure don't mention in the story. Not at all. Perhaps it's Wisconsin. Should be. But maybe it isn't Wisconsin at all.

Neosho was a tanker sunk during WW2. I can't remember which battle but I think it was the Coral Sea. Neosho is at the bottom of the Pacific.

Well lucky for the BJ you have many railroad historians to choose from.
Looking at my May 1966 Official Guide to the Railways...lists just one place
named "Neosho"..Missouri...a place where the Frisco (BN/BNSF) crossed paths
with the Kansas City Southern.

Talk about a small world. there are probably reports about all us us who are Veterans stored here.

Looks like at least 4 entrances to underground facilities here just a stones throw away from the flooding. (must be plenty of vertical difference)

Here's the definitive answer

 

Google Maps calls it the Neosho River, while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers page calls it the Grand-Neosho River Basin. 

So what's the answer? Just like the question of whether Verdigris is pronounced Ver-di-gris or Ver-di-gree, we'll probably never know.

There you have it. Now we all know! Phew!
