So what is a "sleeper"?

Well my first thoughts are a "sleeper" passenger car. Then next would be that car that doesn't show

on your train list that pretty much clerks to train crews called a "sleeper". How a car can get from

Chicago to Everett without no one noticing it. So my step daughters husbands folks from Australia

are visiting and got a chance to talk with them for a while. So I was telling them about the cottonwood

tree fuzz that germinates in my gravel driveway every summer to produce little cottonwood trees and

I got to eradicate them which takes some effort. So they commented about my "sleepers" along the

driveway. "Sleepers"? what do you mean sleepers? So they were referring to the old railroad ties I

have making the driveway border. So we talked for a good 15 minutes discussing "sleepers" and

"Ties/Cross ties". Interesting that Australia banned creosote long ago. Mine are probly still leaching

the shit. So I tried in a short time to find out why the Aussies call crossties "sleepers" and came up

empty but found a good article on "Sleepers" that's worth a read.
