Republic couple mistakenly drives on railroad tracks in rainstorm; asks for intersection changes

REPUBLIC, Mo. -- A couple is sharing a close call on a Republic railroad tracks in hopes it will lead to a road design change.
Billy and Renee Brown were traveling on Highway MM on Christmas night. The couple then mistakenly veered left in a rainstorm on to the railroad tracks.
"All of a sudden, just a big burst of water," said Billy Brown. "You couldn't see nothing. Windshield wipers wouldn't even clean it off. That's how hard it was raining. The next thing I know we was going through the ditch in between the railroad crossing and the road beside it. That's the last thing I remember until we got rested on the railroad tracks."
The couple immediately called 911 and got out of the vehicle. That turned out to be a smart move. A train happened to be heading straight to them. Police were able to get the car off the tracks before the next train rolled on the tracks.
The Browns hope this incident leads to change at that intersection.
"I'd like to see them put some kind of markers there on the highway where you can at least try and see them in the rainy weather," said Renee Brown.
Police say if you are ever in a similar situation, immediately get out of the vehicle and call 911.

Yep, fuckin' railroads. Ya never know when they'll appear outa nowhere! All of a sudden, there's a set of tracks where none existed few hours ago, no warning at all. Seems trains and tracks grow from spores of some fungus...
