Since they've already furloughed more 'non-essential' workers than any other Class-I outfit, we gotta wonder who the layoffs affect.
Like how does UP, and the other BIGs classify essential vs non-essential workers? Paper shufflers are obviously out. Management, which is always top heavy, can also find useless job holders that do little to nothing for tha railroad's mission (moving freight). So where does UP start?
At the top. Closer to the prez than most outfits wanna admit. Then again Railroad Retirement will suffer as fewer and fewer workers will be available to pay in to the system, to shore up the whole thing for future retirees.
Keeping fingers crossed that we'll see more hiring by ALL Class-Is later this year and next!

BNSF/2LARRCO once employed a "Ricky Gates" in engineering/track/structures dept. A big deal type. Could this be the one and only... If so he's as infamous as pretty Boy Floyd, or Machinegun Kelly. In other words, his rep follows him around like a heavy duty FBI rap sheet!
He's a con artist, akin to the likes of Hillbilly Harison... Jumping from one road to another!

Methinks *** doesn't know who the Ricky Gates Clavalin has referred to but Cy guesses that most rails of a certain age know who he is immediately. Ricky Gates, ***, is an infamous name to many of us and he had nothing to do with BNSF.
