PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Three people were taken to the hospital after two trains collided at the Norfolk Southern Portsmouth Yard.
The Federal Railroad Administration confirmed the crash to WSAZ Thursday afternoon, saying the accident is currently under investigation.
A spokesperson for Norfolk Southern says two trains had a "minor collision" at the Portsmouth yard where the trains switch cars.
The spokesperson says one train was coming into the station to drop off cars and another train was on the same track and they ran into each other.
He says three people were taken to the hospital, but they have all been released and are OK.
The Norfolk Southern official says there is no significant damage to the trains or the track and an investigation is underway.
Federal officials say the railroad is required to submit an accident report to the FRA. That report will be posted to an online safety database by September.
WSAZ reached out to 911 dispatchers and local law enforcement Thursday morning after we were made aware of the incident. Dispatchers said they were not made aware of the accident.
