Worked around Sandpoint,ID many a year.

Lave Pend Oreille is a pristine body of water in a beautiful part of Idaho's Panhandle.

BNSF should count their blessings even having ONE bridge over this lake.

Usually bridges don't bother the lake much. Not sure if a derailment ever happened on the existing bridge in the modern era.
Make a world of difference to the BNSF operations from Spokane to Sandpoint as it will become double track to the "split" to
the BNSF Highline and the MRL. Its been a dispatching nightmare forever this original single track mainline between Spokane
and Sandpoint. Think the line is just about all double track now. The don't call it the "Funnel" for nothing. 80 trains a day can
happen often.

It might work both ways. A big jobs booster, but a detriment ta tourists. Sandpoint is a beautiful place, and Pend O'rielle Lake is gorgeous, with wonderful fishing, boating, camping. The town goes dead after October though.

Bridge construction is all about $$$. You can bet state, county, and city officials pockets were a bit fatter after their last meeting. Either way the bridge(s) will be built. And you cam bet trains will be hauling ass through there as fast as possible once the project is done. Velocity=efficiency=money

Au contraire Krink. Was in a work train caboose and had a MT gondola derail one set of wheels about mid span, late 1980's.
Long story for another day.

Pile driving is not real environmentally friendly operation. A lot of petroleum in different forms end up in the water.
More than likely majority of the work will be contracted out to the lowest bidder.
BNsf's B&B forces will probably be reduced to a very minor roll in its construction.
To hell with the union contracts you know.

 You'd figure that, but knowing the HINDTITTY, They'll be looking for the low bid.

Mexican Migrants are hard to find, and most bridge designers are looking for something

worthy of their name/reputation. You wouldn't expect VanGogh to paint a dog house, But

I don't envision a cable stayed suspension bridge either. With a full on fuck em while theyre down

recession coming, Some projects that have been on the books for decades may see the light of day.
