So today Thursday afternoon the first train east out of Everett since Sunday was an empty coal train with
a bunch of DH crews to Wenatchee aboard. Highway 2 been closed to Wenatchee since last Sunday and
no way via automobile to get crews to Wenatchee. Highway 2 opened up Thursday over Stevens Pass but
the power is out everywhere along the way. Skykomish has 3ft of snow, no power for a week, no water,
no phones. They started to run caravans of food/supplies up that way today. Ungawdly amounts of snow
has fallen in the Cascade Mountains last 2-weeks.

You talking about avalanches? Since they built the "new Cascade Tunnel" in 1929 avalanches not been a problem but the "old Cascade Tunnel" route was essentially destroyed by an avalanche and the town of Wellington. FF to today and the Cascade Mountains have got 6ft+ of snow since Jan 1. The bigger problem than the amount of snow is that it "stuck" to the trees in a way that 100's of them fell over/down over highways/railways/power lines/phone lines and 100's more "ready to fall". I recall a AMTK train in Oregon a year or two ago that got stranded by deep snow and fallen trees ahead and behind them. Some good news for Skykomish anyway as they got power back Friday and the town is still lit-up like Christmas/real festive and you can see how much snow they got even at night. Glad that the VR Skykomish cam back on and should make for some interesting watching.
