I made this kimchi for the first time.  I totally missed the part where she thoroughly washed off the salted cabbage no.  It's very salty and spicy.  Maybe over time it will be less salty.

On a positive note, it tastes way better than the store bought stuff, other than the salt.

One time I was making a batch of tomato sauce to can and I misread the recipe as I was sposed to add 3tsp of
salt but I added 3 Tbsp of salt. It was a canning disaster as just a taste of this tomato sauce sent you into
sodium overload. Never wondered what kimchi tasted like but I can guess.

 It actually tastes different with every brand.  Everyone in my house hates the smell, the stuff I made doesn't have that sour smell yet.  My wife said it was just spicy and tasted like kimchi.  It was easy enough to make, so I might throw it out and start over

I can take a little spice....maybe somebody makes some kimchi that's just a little spicy.
