Cy spent three weeks on a daylight hump job as a student HAWG, way back when. There were two jobs per shift in those days.

NS Permanently Shuttering Bellevue Hump Next Week
Almost exactly five years after Norfolk Southern completed a $160 million improvement project to the Bellevue, Ohio hump yard and named it after former NS CEO and Chairman, Wick Moorman, information has been received that the hump yard will be permanently closed next week.
Moorman Yard is the largest rail yard on the Norfolk Southern system after the 2015 improvements doubled its size. It has been one of NS primary classification yards, where freight cars are collected and sorted for their final destinations.
Located midway between Chicago and New York, a total of five NS main lines converge there, having made it a perfect location for distributing some 3,200 carloads of freight moving daily.
In pre-2020 statements, NS has touted, On a broader scale, Moorman Yards centralized position on NS Northern Region promotes fluid movement of long-distance freight across the entire rail network.
According to the reports, some possible block swapping and flat switching may continue at Bellevure. Other flat switching and classification will be moved to Airline Junction in Toledo and to Rockport in Cleveland, OH. A total of twenty-six carmen positions will be abolished and a of six yardmasters will reportedly be retained.
The hump is planned for full closure on Tuesday, 16.June.2020. (NS photo)

Now all the surrounding yards are doing the flat switching.

Yeah, then they tack the freight on the back of the double stack trains. The other day they had 6000 tons, behind the stacks. Someones going to string line a train going into the yard. The other train had to highball their pick-up cause they only had one engine and it was over tonnage. Odd times, the once hottest UPS train stopping to pick up general freight that could be run down by a turn job.

Right up there with, "They're planning for years ahead, as much as a decade".

Told to me by a division RFE. Must have missed it on Wick Memorial Yard.

I've never seen where they planned for anything. Everything is a reaction, even down to adjusting the extraboard to what happened the previous half.

I was looking through my NS pictures and a visit to Bellevue Ohio in early 1990's. Long deadline of locomotives I remember.
Mrs Krink snapped a photo while I was driving over Bellevue of the hump and its blurry a little bit/lot but that's OK. Legendary
NW hot spot that I never dreamed of going to but somehow it happened anyway.

I promise you the razor blades they made out of that 8081 still smell like the most rancid, vile piss smell you have ever smelt.

I think you even got a picture of *cys* home away from home in that first picture.

Route 4 New Administration building on the left, Snippy, the hump tower in the middle, the tower was added on top of the New Ad building in later years, Cy has to wonder if it's being used for anything today, now that the hump has been shut down. The visible outside stairway is one Cy has been up and down many times, around front is the main entrance and inside stairways and an elevator, tu.

Mr. Krink's second picture was backwards, I've flipped it, you may view as desired.  The blue building was the only building there for years, we would go in the office to find out what our power assignment would be, office was on the other end of the building.  The large locomotive structure was built much later, I think it would have been fairly new when Mr. Krink drove by.

The third and fourth pics are of the East Yard, before the N&W expanded, there was an East Yard and a West Yard, yet that was the largest yard on the NKP, I think.  The building in the distance is the Old Administration building, it was demolished sometime later.

The dormitory would be to the left of the first picture, on the other side of tracks not visible.  Today, it's gone, replaced by fuel tanks, AFH crews stay on the north edge of Bellevue, about 3-4 miles away.

I looked at the fuel pad pic and thought I would have sworn it went the other way, but oh well.

And, I could've sworn those steps right on the hump were the dead giveaway for it being the dorm. I thought the dorm was typical N&W brick shithouse architecture, no fancy coating (paint), either. Maybe they painted it in the late 80's. I know that I never wanted tu go there. They were still staying there in at least early 2000s. Oh, well.

Nah, it always looked about the same. There were some minor minor changes inside over the years. Cy spent his first night there in the summer of 1969, building was maybe three years old then.
