I knew one HAWG who wore a hearing aid for years and everybody knew it.

I remember during my physical in Philadelphia at the Community College of Philadelphia, they put us in a small
box on the floor that looked like a dog cage with no air vents. They put an old headset over our ears that looked like
something out of an old P-52 Mustang. You could hear people talking and walking up and down the hallway outside the
room. I heard the nurse yelling at some guy behind me "Don't press the buttons until you hear something, The test isn't
even started yet." And then about a minute later She Yelled again, "Quit pressing the buttons, I'll flunk you next time you
press a button when there is no sound. After the physical we all went back to class, so no one flunked.
First time I had a hearing test I asked how I did and the guy said he didnt know the railroad was the
only one to see the results. Couple weeks later I got a letter from the RR saying my hearing was bad
and to go see my own doctor. An old head said to write back and refute it. He said they were looking to
eliminate claims at the end of your career for hearing loss on the job. They would keep copy of the letter
for when you retired. So I wrote a letter saying I was just hired a year ago and the test said I was OK.
RR wrote me right back and said there was a problem with the testing equipment used in my test
and that I should not worry about anything being wrong with my hearing.
