18 to 20 cars does not sound to major unless it is HAZMAT or on a bridge.

Just your everyday 20 car derailment.

Biggest, nastiest derailment I ever did see!

I know where that is. That was one piece of mainline that I could never figure out well enough to run a good train. Couldn't blame the signals, though. Those signals were my first experience at a really well-planned signal installation. Every signal was positioned for visibility and made good landmarks. A whole lot were right at the crest of most every swag. The Southren mainline signals had been reconfigured for CTC when they arbitrarily cut out every 10 miles of double track from Orange, VA to Atlanta. Control points in hairpin curves and hidden behind rocks. It was pretty obvious the boys from Georgia Tech never even left Atlanta when they fucked up a good railroad.

Like the old Conrail signals where you'd get an approach into a diverging movement. Just as long as it lit up it was good.

I thought I heard the guy in video say the cause of derailment was a "car breaking in half" and the following derailed.
A car breaking in half. Usually the drawbar gives first or maybe a knuckle. Need to follow up on this one.
