After a decade (the 1960's) of the most mundane train watching in Bellingham the BN Merger in 1970 changed all that. Very quickly

CBQ GP-30's and GP35's sent out west. SP&S Alco's now mixed in. NP power heavily mixed in with everything. BN trains

2 a day each way from Canada kept the same with now ex-NP F9's/F9B's and maybe a GP30. The "Train of the Day" in Bellingham

was the "Fern Turn" (Ferndale Wa-Interbay) in the late afternoon that wasnt going to Canada so whatever the Interbay Roundhouse

had next out was on the Fern Turn which was CBQ power/SPS power/NP power. Day after day this was the train to see. Also at this

time BN went very quickly at repainting every engine "Cascade Green and White". The F-Unit fleet all got painted BN in like a year.

First time seeing BN painted units was new and exciting too. The "Mighty BN" is taking shape.
