BNSF Interbay Roundhouse...going..going....GONE!

Uke might be turning in his grave with this news. I first visited Interbay Roundhouse in 1971 and took a lot of pictures. Numerous visits up until mid-1980's.

Interbay the GN/BN/BNSF "Seattle Shangrila" for a large collection of motive power in one place. In the early 70's you went to the Interbay Rounhouse  office

and fill out a "release form" that gave you permission to walk about the place and take pictures. I got some great pictures of Interbay Roundhouse. Look for some soon.

Surely, they'll save the wheel machine. Surely, it's already been memorialized with a plaque honoring Uke's memory. Long live Uke.

Might be going but, as long as we don't have another purge, we have an archive of solid gold.

Uke's still here....

My 3-ring notebook of all my Interbay B&W negatives been sitting on my dining room table for weeks
as I've been re-scanning all my BN Everett negatives. With the news of Interbay Roundhouse being demolished
took at a peak at what I already have scanned from 15yrs ago with primitive computer and scanner and
surprisingly it will do for information purposes. BN Interbay for sure was "BN Disneyland". Still in High Skoolen
and 17-18yrs old when I took these pictures. Developed the film myself. These 10 pictures mostly of the old
wood roundhouse part of Interbay. Next post will have the "Run-thru shed" part of Interbay Roundhouse.

The "Run-thru Shed" at Interbay was the place to hang out. All the inbound trains parked their power here.
I think refueling done in this building too. Much like the "Jiffy Lube" kind of service. Spit out the south end
and this power is on the chalkboard for next assignment. What made Interbay so interesting 50yrs ago was
this coming together of so many paint schemes. GN original paint and GN Sky Blue. NP black and yellow freight
scheme and NP passenger green and white on the F-Units. First time any CBQ power seen in the GPNW with
my favorite Red/White scheme. Then probly only in the GPNW how the SP&S roster of mostly ALCO's finished
out their time on the BN. Seattle-Vancouver WA-Spokane and down the "Inside Gateway" you could see SP&S ALCO's.
The "Inside Gateway" brought a lot WP power to Seattle/Interbay. BN connection with SP in Portland had SP units
sitting at Interbay often. Add the the newly formed Amtrak and it couldnt be a more interesting place to visit.
