Ohio is known as the weathervane state because of its proclivity for predicting election outcomes, guessing 13 straight until 2020. It's an important state when it comes to politics, and according to the AP, it's one of the most gerrymandered states in the country - when the districts and borders are drawn in such a way as to favor a political party. A seven-member panel, the Ohio Redistricting Commission, has been tasked with fairly redrawing Ohio's borders, changes that will stay in place for the next decade.

The panel is traveling across the state to get a read on people's opinions, and the first of nine public hearings with concerned Ohioans commenced yesterday. Despite Ohio losing one of its 16 congressional districts for its slow population growth from 2010-2020, Ohio remains integral to the 2022 midterms and the 2024 presidential election and it has leaned Republican in recent times,with former president Trump taking the state in both 2016 and 2020.
