A derailment at Caliente on the Tehachapi line. Trains running again.

Caliente derailment

With the Amtrak derailment on the BNSF HiLine closing freight/cargo traffic for 4 days BNSF has another route it can take via the ex-NP through the Dakotas

to Laurel MT connects with MRL which goes to Sandpoint/Hauser/Spokane. All well and good except not enough crews on this ex-NP line that sees mostly

coal trains/grain trains. The length of the BNSF HiLine closure had multiple days of detours of Z-Trains and Q trains going via the ex-NP through the Badlands

and beyond. Why not run "Super Trains" for the first time on this stretch railroad during MIR. Here is how it went...

Cy worked for a company like that and, as I think I've related before, we had a HAWG who got accused of making stuff up when he told a general car foreman that the trainline was probably frozen up.  Phukker accused him of lying to delay the train until he found ice and then he drove up to the head end and actually apologized.  Guy had recently come to TQCOTW from HOTlanta and they'd never had that happen down in HOTlanta.

Used to crack me up how they'd never check the switch heaters until, oh, it's cold and snowy outside, we might want to see if they still work.
