Stevens Pass shut down due to derailment

I just sat down in my seat at the garage door to hand out peanuts to the needy about 10am and I hear the BNSF Seattle East Dispr

give the news on the radio to all trains on the Scenic Sub going east that a derailment at Scenic has changed everybodies plans.

A lengthy speech telling what trains are going to do what. I was trying to figure out how a train could derail at Scenic. 2.2% grade

from Skykomish to Scenic 25 miles. 1.6% grade eastward through 8 miles of Cascade Tunnel. Need to mention there could be 20ft+

of snow at Scenic. Seems an eastbound empty coal train which weighs 3700 tons has room for more tonnage of Everett-Spokane

traffic to make it right at tonnage limit going over Stevens pass. Train stalls and needs a push from a following PTLCHI-Z train

and it apparently shoved too hard as from what I can gather the west portal of Cascade Tunnel is jammed with derailed cars.

And to complicated every thing is highway traffic across Stevens Pass is closed to altleast Saturday because of snow way over your head.

Getting equipment in there is going to be a challenge. Will be following this story for updates.
