             it was wet, I'd just cleaned it.. being wet makes a big difference

            I think only the bigger pieces or maybe ones that are agatized or opalized are valuable.. the wood from the area Cy referred to has brilliant colors. I use it mostly for show, like on the patio and stuff. Mostly it gets me out doing something on a regular basis. 

Petrified wood my in-laws collected in 1949 from AZ. I wonder if they were telling people not to take it then. I wonder how much got carried away.

The biggest piece weighs 17 1/2 lbs.

That's what my petrified wood looked like purple-blue gray agate inside, pronounced brown shades of bark on the outside. Still haven't seen it.
