Virtual Railfan has had a cam at Flagstaff AZ for a long time with East and West cams. Just recently they changed the view and when the PTZ cam operator
is on board can telephoto the curve to the east for west bounds. Recent VR Grab Bag has 2 WB's racing side by side into Flagstaff. New in town to is "Railfan Arizona"
with a great cam at East Winslow and the just on-air Kingman AZ. Spent most of the day/night listening/seeing to the BNSF through Kingman getting a feel for it.
From Needles CA to Winslow AZ its a 1.43% ruling grade for 225 miles eastbound. Westbound its dynamic brakes for 225 miles. This stretch of track is where
the most modern high horsepower units are put the max. Kingman like Flagstaff and Winslow...no whistles at the crossings. You got to go by noise. If you can
hear the roar of train in the distance on a calm night or the "ding-ding-ding" of the crossing gates going down are your indications a train is here/now.
If you need something to have on a new tab while browsing elsewhere this is good.
Pipes and other BJ Members interested in live railcams if you are watching on your computer you can "move the slider bar" back
on the live to view trains that already passed. So places on the UP with fewer trains you can "back up" and see what you missed.
Really comes in handy watching what trains went through Skykomish WA where a measly 12 trains a day pass. Subtract E/W
Empire Builder and 10 BNSF trains. BNSF sends as much as they can Spokane-Pasco-Vancouver WA-Auburn-Seattle-Everett.
What BNSF Stevens Pass sees today is a couple empty coal trains a couple of empty oil trains and a Q east/west and a Z east/west.
Then a couple trains going to Portland OR via Stevens Pass. Its all about having a steady number of trains to balance the train crews
going each way.
