Apparently a switcher from private company derailed hanging out/fowl of the NS mainline not enough to give red block but enough to get clobbered.

NS crew injured and transported to hospital. Pretty big mess to clean up.

If one were to speculate, one might think there was a derail near the switch and the errant industrial HAWG got over the derail. Or perhaps the locomotive rolled out on its own, due to a lack of proper securement. I remember something like this happening with much less dire results, a car rolled out just enough to take a storm window* off the lead engine. The industry was blamed.

But Cy is guessing.

*Storm window, a Red Team addition that wasn't practical for much with scarred up plexiglass masking as see-through glass.

* - The true term for these abominations is 'window boxes'. They also made the black engines an extra 20º(M) hotter than any other locomotive, a feature management loved. They were never shut down, so with dual control stands, leaving the control stand lights on heated the cabs up even more, and then, let's talk about when they removed the water valves from the cab heaters so the radiator water circulated in the cabs year-round. Wouldn't want to send somebody out from the roundhouse on the first cold day to turn those valves because the Red Team guys knew absolutely nothing about locomotives. Hottest mother fucking engines on the planet.Other than also being the dirtiest on the planet and not having extended range die-matic brakes, they were great engines, except they smoked more than the washrooms did.

TreeHouse Foods Columbia / American Italian Pasta Co - Google Maps  Blue Butt Head

When I went to Engineer school there were guys from the southern (Below Richmond) part

of the railroad who made up 1/2 of our class. They kept talking about all the different engines

they saw around the shops at Cumberland. All they used were "Butt Heads".  All we knew was

butt heads happened when you tried to couple cars and both knuckles were closed. The terminology

behind it was unique so it stuck, we just had to answer an additional question on what a Butt Head was.

Anyway, heres the 2 pvt owned Butt Heads, you can follow the tracks around the plant and out tu the

main.

We got a Butt head once in our outlying terminal in a power bureau snafu. problem was all the jobs there are road switchers and take decent tonnage up the road to industries. The butt head was great for switching, but on the main line, being geared so low it just ran out of steam about 22mph..of course there was overtime involved, so it wasnt THAT bad.
