I watched this one the other day of a BNSF GE DPU with 10-15ft flames out the stack going up Tehachapi in tinder dry surroundings.

It eventually caused some grass fires before the head end got notification to stop the train.

There are other videos with "flames from the stack".

Typical of old GE's...I dunno blown Turbo seals or just worn out impeller but the fuel injection still pumping in fuel like the turbo is hard at work...stuck injector also comes to mind.

The "Dirty Shirt" outta Cumberland headed to AACA always had several engines in transit

in the consist. (These were being ferried back and forth to The shop for 90 day inspection

and repairs.) Headed east outta Pattersons Creek, when the rear end cleared the 30mph

curve it was time tu "skin er back" and run 8. Looking back you could see all those engines

that had spent some time running at idle, and carboned up thier exhaust manifolds, heating

up to cherry red and then the vibration knocking little chunks of flamimg carbon up into the

air like a fireworks display. Back in those days all the engines were online, it wasn't my ass

going tu get chewed for bringing bad power back from the shop.

Watching BNSF power going by the multiple railcams 1 in 50 or 1 in 100 GE 4400hp units with "flame/fire damaged paint
right near the "stack" pass by. BNSF got to be running out of parts. Notice some of the fixes from an engine with different
paint scheme.
